PERSONAL ESSAY SITE
This is the site to which you would go to post your drafts of your personal essay for the Capstone Course. You may also post any questions and/or other comments relevant to the personal essay assignment, which we will try to respond to in a timely fashion. I assume all of you have a hard copy of that assignment. If, for some reason you don't or you misplaced yours, I have extra copies. The deadlines for the first and second drafts are TUESDAY, MARCH 3RD and THURSDAY, APRIL 9TH, respectively. The final draft is due as a hard copy NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, MAY 1ST (May Day, a day of celebration for working folks, like yourselves, which is only fitting). SOUNDING BOARD FOR RESEARCH PROJECTS & PERSONAL ESSAYS
Please use this site to post comments and/or questions about your research projects and/or personal essays, especially when you might not be able to make it to our weekly sessions. If you post something and you see no response or acknowledgement for a few days, send anyone of the sociology faculty an email to remind them to check it out. Also, let me encourage any member of the Capstone Course to post a comment or suggestion about a fellow classmate's work. After a few weeks there may be a fair number of such comments posted, so you may have to scroll through to see if there is anything you want to comment on.
Research Project Proposal
Below is a description of what your formal research proposal needs to include. We'll talk more about your projects next week and try to refine them a bit more. But remember, the formal proposal will be due the following week.
RESEARCH PROPOSAL
I. Statement of the question, hypothesis, or topic you plan to explore.
II. How do you plan to carry out your research, including a brief statement of what you've already done.
a. What research instrument will you be using (interview, questionnaire, etc.)and what population will you be focusing on? What type of sample will you use? (if applicable)
b. For library and Internet research, basically just describe your plan of action.
III. Relevance of the research/ anticipated conclusions.
IV. A brief bibliography of sources already consulted. You may also include sources you plan to consult if you know of any.
The proposal should be 1-2 pages.
